A guide on how to add a reference to this article and fall in line with the general referencing style

Write a reference as you usually would in a template that is most appropriate for your reference: {{cite book}}, {{cite journal}}, {{cite web}}, {{cite report}}. Please use |first1=, |last1=, |first2=, |last2=, etc.; also, please add |displayauthors=3 if there are more than three authors. Please use initials instead of complete first names, the longer range notation for page numbers (1234–5678; 1234−1567; 123–145; 123–124), and the dmy date format ("1 January 1970"). Add author links if possible (via |authorlink=).

The following reference should look like this:

  • * {{cite book |last=Emsley |first=J. |authorlink=John Emsley |title=Nature's Building Blocks: An A-Z Guide to the Elements |year=2011 |publisher=Oxford University |isbn=978-0-19-850341-5 |page=236}} in the text near the claim.

Use in cavity magnetrons filaments (used in microwave ovens)

[edit]

The page on cavity magnetrons states Thorium is used in the filaments of the magnetron. It would be interesting to find references to support this and to mention it under the applications for / uses of Thorium.

Long-term Abuse

[edit]

STOP: Please don’t archive this topic because there could be new sockpuppet activity anytime.

This article has been a long-term target by newly created sockpuppets, vandals, and trolls. I listed some sockpuppet incidents below.

February 2024 Incidents

On 2/2, ThoriumEnjoyer2222 replaced thorium with “methium”, a fictional element from the TV show Breaking Bad. One day after ThoriumEnjoyer2222 was indefinitely blocked, Beebish the People added that thorium was a dog breed and added a description that he made up. The article was then semi-protected for 2 weeks. Both accounts caused heavy damage to the article.

Thorium to “Lokium”

From 6/21-9/18, sockpuppets of Lokilizations are Bad have been replacing thorium with “lokium.” I think it’s because the sockpuppets think that it’s unfair that Thor has an element named after him and Loki doesn’t. On 7/31, the article was semi-protected for 3 months. On 9/18, a sockpuppet with an offensive username requested to change thorium one and a half months into the 3 month protection. The first request was to change it to the Peanuts character Linus, the second to lokium.

If this continues, this page will need to be semi-protected indefinitely and we may need to start a sockpuppet/long term abuse investigation.

That's a known long-term abuser, many admins and editors (including myself) have some of the targeted pages in our watchlists to be able to deal with the damage, and request a longer semi-protection if it happens again after this one expires. Yep, that's him. Loki-related pages are already mentioned in #Targeted areas, pages, themes, but at this point it's best to not give him too much attention or information. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 23:18, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No need to list all of them, they're usually blocked on sight and giving more attention like this is not especially helpful. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 23:52, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
